Dishonored Overseer Mask - Unpainted Resin Cast

from 90.00

Inspired by the Overseer character from the Dishonored video game, this hand-made mask is a resin cast of my original hand-sculpted version. This is a blank cast, trimmed and ready for painting and finishing. Two versions are available: white resin and cold-cast metal.

WHITE: $90
COLD-CAST: $120

WHITE FINISH
The white finish is Smooth-Cast 300 urethane resin, untinted and unpainted. The weight is approximately 10 oz.

COLD-CAST FINISH
This is a metallic finish that has brass powder embedded in the outer layer of resin (Smooth-Cast 300). The mask comes unpolished. Before it is polished, it has a dull, yellowish color -- a light polishing with 0000 grade steel wool is all that is needed to bring out the luster of the metal surface. The inside of the mask does not have a cold-cast finish, but it has been tinted a brownish gold color. The weight is approximately 12-13 oz.

The mask is "one-size-fits-most." The inside width is approximately 6 1/4 inches, measured from cheek bone to cheek bone. The total height is approximately 9 1/2 inches. The inside surface of the mask is smooth, unsculpted resin. A strap and padding are not included with the mask.

This mask is perfect for costuming and cosplay but is NOT intended to offer any sort of protection for airsoft or other sports.

Finishing your cold-cast mask

To finish your cold-cast mask, I recommend first coating the entire mask with a thin layer of paint then giving the mask a polish with 0000 grade steel wool. I use black Tamiya acrylic paint, brushed on lightly, then dabbed with a paper towel. Be sure to get the paint all the way into the corners. It will look splotchy at this point -- this is ok. Let the paint dry completely. When you polish the mask with steel wool, it will remove most of the paint on the edges and smooth surfaces, but it will leave behind the paint in the crevices and corners that you can't quite reach with the steel wool. This gives the mask an aged and weathered appearance.

You can see Brittany Doran of Punished Props applying the method in this video.
