This handmade Jacob Marley door knocker replica is a fantastic display piece for any Charles Dickens fan. It depicts the moment in Dickens' A Christmas Carol when Scrooge sees the ghost of his partner Jacob Marley in the door knocker at the entrance to his home. It is cold cast in brass as one solid piece (the knocker does not move), and it has been weathered to give the appearance of an antique heirloom.
The door knocker was originally sculpted by hand in a wax-based clay. This is a copy created from a silicone mold of the original. It is cold cast using brass powder mixed with urethane resin. The surface has been buffed with steel wool to give it the shiny look of real metal. To simulate the look of an antique, the door knocker has been weathered with acrylic paints, and a slight green patina has been added in the crevices.
On the back side of the door knocker is a recessed keyhole hanger which allows the piece to be displayed easily on a wall using a nail or screw.
PLEASE NOTE: The door knocker is meant as a display piece and it does not function. It is cast as a single, solid piece of resin. The knocker ring does not move.
It is recommended to keep the door knocker indoors away from the elements. Although the surface is cold-cast brass, the finish is not meant to withstand an outdoor environment. In an indoor environment, the piece may tarnish over time just like real brass. To bring back some shine, it can be buffed lightly with a fine steel wool (0000 grade steel wool is recommended).
